Also shows you how poor our education system has become and,

NO, I don't have the answers!

Greetings from the TRUE NORTH STRONG AND FREE...

Greetings to all,

Wow, we have been very busy with family over the last week. Our two grandson, Nic and Austin are visiting for five weeks of Summer from Texas. Along with our son, Andrew is home for 15 days from Afghanistan on a short leave.

Yesterday, we had a great time at Spruceland Baptist Church. We gave away "Support Our Troops" wristbands, for Canada Day.

On Sunday evenings, we have started a video series by Dr. Mike Gass on "A Glorious Church" that goes with the book by the same name and author.

I haven't posted much but we are still here.

Revelation Famine Forecast

World wheat production threatened by fungus

David Akin, Canwest News Service Published: Wednesday, June 24, 2009

http://www.nationalpost.com/news/story.html?id=1728899

OTTAWA -- Scientists in Canada and around the world are racing to find a way to stop a destructive fungus that threatens to wipe out 80% of the world's wheat crop, causing widespread famine and pushing the cost of such staples as bread and pasta through the roof.

Canadian officials say that the airborne fungus, known as Ug99, has so far proved unstoppable, making its way out of eastern Africa and into the Middle East and Central Asia. It is now threatening areas that account for more than one-third of the world's wheat production and scientists in North America say it's only a matter of time before the pest hits the breadbasket regions of North America, Russia and China.

"I think it's important people start recognizing what a big threat this is. This could mean world famine. This is quite the deal," said Rob Graf, a research scientist with Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada's research centre in Lethbridge, Alta.

The United Nations calls Ug99 "a major threat" to the world's food security.

"Anything that one part of the world gets, another part of the world will eventually get," said Doug Robertson, president of The Grain Growers of Canada. "Stem rust can be a really devastating disease."

Ug99 -- so named because it was first found in Uganda in 1999 -- is a type of stem rust. Spores from the fungus attach themselves to the stalk of a wheat plant and a pustule that causes the reddish-brown rust colour grows. The pustule takes over the plant's nutrient and water system to nurture more pustules and spores instead of grain.

Rust is a problem wheat growers have been dealing with since biblical times. Canadian wheat producers last dealt with a massive rust problem in the 1950s.

"Those producers who are challenged with feeding the world should be concerned about this," said Rick Istead, executive director of the Alberta Winter Wheat Producers Commission. "If this rust becomes rampant in North America, we believe all wheat types would be susceptible -- spring and winter and durum wheat."

Whenever a new rust-causing fungus is discovered, scientists develop a new strain of wheat that can fight off the fungus.

Scientists do this by introducing different genes into wheat plants using conventional breeding techniques, but it can be a time-consuming process. It can often take as many as 12 years to produce new pest-resistant wheat variants.

Scientists working for the U.S. Department of Agriculture have already tested 16,000 wheat varieties, trying to find the genetic combination that will beat back Ug99.

The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation gave $26.8-million US to CornellUniversity in New York to set up the Durable Rust Resistance in Wheat project.

"Resource-poor farmers are particularly vulnerable to wheat-stem disease, which has the potential to wipe out entire crops," said Dr. Rajiv Shah, director of agricultural development for the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation's Global Development Program.

Scientists at Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada are also working on the problem. The federal government provided the Morden Research Centre in Manitoba with an additional $250,000 in funding this year to build new laboratory facilities specifically designed for Ug99 research.

Almost all the research in North America to develop new wheat strains is funded by governments.

There is little or no research money poured into wheat, say grain growers.

"This is one of the concerns that a lot of grower groups have," said Istead. "Cereals haven't had type or amount of research dollars spent on them, because there's more of an attractive pull into corn and soybeans, just because of the return on investment."

COULD THIS BE ME???

I’ve taught a class for many years:
Borne many burdens- toiled through tears;
But folks don’t notice me a bit:
I’m discouraged - I’ll just quit.

Sometime ago, I joined the choir;
That many souls I might inspire;
But folks don’t seem to move a bit,
And I won’t stand it - I’ll just quit.

I’ve led young people day and night,
And sacrificed to lead them right,
But folks won’t help me out a bit,
And I’m so tired - I think I’ll quit.

Christ’s cause is hindered everywhere,
And folks are dying in despair,
The reason why? Just think a bit;
The Church is full of FOLKS WHO QUIT!!

Why would any true Baptist promote a man who proclaimed "infant baptism"?

Answer: a true Baptist would NOT!!!!!

That is my question, and my answer, care to comment?

John Calvin: Infant Baptism
by Rev. Bryn MacPhail

The most significant controversy to centre upon the sacrament of baptism has arguably been the debate over whether it is legitimate to baptize infants or not(McGrath 443). In his most renowned work, Institutes of the Christian Religion, John Calvin takes up this issue endeavouring to prove that infant baptism is a divine institution(Wendel 324). Calvin declares that "infants cannot be deprived of it[baptism] without open violation of the will of God"(Inst.4, 16, 8). He reasons this primarily through paralleling circumcision and baptism, asserting that Scripture testifies to the fact that baptism is for the Christians what circumcision was previously for the Jews(Inst.4, 16, 11). This essay will undertake the task of manifesting the coherence, profundity, and thoroughness of Calvin's reasoning, while illuminating the congruence of his arguments with Scripture.

John Calvin on Infant Baptism

... an interesting and authoritative 16th Century Protestant affirmation of the intrinsic meaning and effect of the sacraments, which attributes their detraction to, well, Satan. It is a byword in the Catholic historical perspective that while Luther clung to Catholic sacramentality, Calvin clung to Catholic soteriology... thus neither were really able to depart that far from the faith of the apostles.

"No sound man, I presume, can now doubt how rashly the Church is disturbed by those who excite quarrels and disturbances because of infant baptism. For it is of importance to observe what Satan means by all this craft, viz., to rob us of the singular blessing of confidence and spiritual joy, which is hence to be derived, and in so far to detract from the glory of the divine goodness. For how sweet is it to pious minds to be assured not only by word, but even by ocular demonstration, that they are so much in favour with their heavenly Father, that he interests himself in their posterity! Here we may see how he acts towards us as a most provident parent, not ceasing to care for us even after our death, but consulting and providing for our children. Ought not our whole heart to be stirred up within us, as David's was, (Ps. 48: 11,) to bless his name for such a manifestation of goodness? Doubtless, the design of Satan in assaulting infant baptism with all his forces is to keep out of view, and gradually efface, that attestation of divine grace which the promise itself presents to our eyes. In this way, not only would men be impiously ungrateful for the mercy of God, but be less careful in training their children to piety. For it is no slight stimulus to us to bring them up in the fear of God, and the observance of his law, when we reflect, that from their birth they have been considered and acknowledged by him as his children. Wherefore, if we would not maliciously obscure the kindness of God, let us present to him our infants, to whom he has assigned a place among his friends and family that is, the members of the Church.

Things That Just Rip My Gizzard

by J. Harris

I have a list of things that really get next to me. I mean these things just chap my hide, rip my gizzard and generally hack me off. Everyone probably has a list like this. Ever’ once in a while, it’s good to blow off a little steam, so here are some things that are on my hit list.

(1) Church Fundraisers The Lord’s got a plan for financing His church and her ministries. That plan don’t include selling donuts, having spaghetti suppers, holding car washes and rafflin’ off the family dog. God’s plan is called the “open your wallet and give cheerfully” plan. Church members ought to tithe and give above the tithe for special things. If the young’uns want to go on a trip, the church ought to be able to take care of it, instead of sendin’ them traipsin’ up and down the streets sellin’ junk that nobody wants to buy anyway. Why, if ever’body in every church just tithed, the church would have to hold special meetin’s just to figure out how to use all the extra money for the Lord’s work.

(2) Unfaithful Church Workers The sorry way in which elected workers treat the Lord’s work is a shame. I’ve seen Sunday School teachers not show up and never tell ‘nary a soul they weren’t coming. I’ve seen committees elected to take care of important business (any business for the Lord is important) and never hold the first meetin’. If they performed on their money payin’ job the way they work for the church, they would be fired before noon on Monday. The Lord’s work is not second rate.

(3) Stingy Church Treasurers Let me explainify. I’m talkin’ about treasurers who treat the church’s money as their own private stash. In one church I pastored, the treasurer had a coniption every time the church voted to spend a penny. The church once voted to spend $50.00 on needed supplies. When I went to the money man for a check, he balked, turned red in the face, wrote the check and threw it at me. I considered givin’ him a holy slap, but declined. The church voted to spend that money. Well, he later resigned and we commenced with spendin’.

(4) Dead Preachin’ Nothing is harder to endure than dead preachin’. Old Brother E. M. Bounds used to say, “Dead men preach dead sermons, and dead sermons kill.” I know a preacher who literally puts the congregation to sleep. His people say church is where they get their best nap. Late one night, one of his members couldn’t get to sleep, so she called up this preacher and asked him to give her a little devotion on the phone. She was snoozin’ in no time. Now, I know what your thinkin’, and No, the preacher don’t have to rant, rave, yell, stomp, snort and foam at the mouth to give some good preachin’. Ever’body’s different. But every preacher ought to be excited and enthusiastic about his message. And folks can tell if you ain’t.

Modernism

By J. Frank Norris

I have more respect for Tom Paine in his grave, and Bob Ingersoll—at least they had self respect enough to stay out of the church and out of the pulpits, they were not like these little modernistic, lick-the-skillet, two-by-four aping, asinine preachers who want to be in the priest’s office so they can have a piece of bread, and play kite tail to the Communists.

I am not going to say anything about them this afternoon, but I plan to do so sometime soon.

“Oh!” some sister will say, “I don’t think that’s the Christian spirit” — Honey, you wouldn’t know the Christian spirit, any more than a bull would know Shakespeare.

I’ll tell you the spirit we need in this compromising, milk-and-cider, neither-hot-nor-cold — you want to know the kind of spirit we need? We need the spirit of old John the Baptist when he told that Sanhedrin, “You are a generation of snakes.”

We need again the spirit of the Apostle Peter when he stood before the Sanhedrin and said, “Is it right to obey man rather than God.”

Talk about you Methodists, we need again the spirit of old John Wesley when he walked out of his fathers’ church and stood on his father’s slab and preached a sermon that shook the world!

We Baptists need the spirit of Roger Williams when he walked out in the snows with the Naragansett Indians rather than to stultify his conscience.

We need again the spirit of those Baptist preachers in 1767 yonder on the Court House yard in old Culpepper, Virginia, when stripped to the waist with hands tied and held up, the strap was put on their bare backs and drops of blood fell — Patrick Henry rode up and said, “What crime have these men committed?” — when they answered, “They were preaching the Gospel of the Son of God without a license.” He answered two words three times: “My God, My God, My God.”

BIBLE HISTORY

Comparisons Made

Between Two Books

Final article by Rev. Mark Buch of the People’s Fellowship Tabernacle on his opinion as to the true Bible appears on this page today. Here he states various differences between the old Bible and the Revised Standard Version and why he prefers the old one.

By Mark Buch

Lovers of the Old Bible are accused that they base their resentment of the new Bible on emotionalism and prejudice of the National Council of Churches. Thus speak the sponsors of the Revised Standard Version to justify the terrific wave of resentment and offence which their Bible has caused among Evangelicals in general and Fundamentalists in particular.

As you have followed this series on the truth of verbal inspiration, it is no doubt clear to you that this is far from being true. The deep love and reverence for the old Bible is based on the foundation of its great God-inspired historical manuscripts, combined with the masterful scholarship and devotion of the men who translated it. This is nowhere more obvious than in the comparison of the two Bibles.

For example, one finds whole passages which have held an esteemed place in the old Bible for hundreds of years, but now, alas, they are discredited or dropped out altogether in the new Bible, which, so its sponsors claim, “is now in a real sense the authorized translation for our Protestant churches.”

BIBLE HISTORY

King James Version

Defended as Best

Third article in a series by Rev. Mark Buch, of the People’s Fellowship Tabernacle, on his opinions as to the true Bible and its origin is printed today. Rev. Mr. Buch is one of the Evangelical Christians who so strongly oppose the new Revised Standard Version of the Bible. The Province prints these articles and the previous set on the Revised Version so that its readers will more clearly understand the tow schools of thought.

By Mark Buch

The truth of Verbal Inspiration has been a controversy ever since the Bible’s earliest writings and will be until the coming of Christ, but increasingly so as the end of the age draws nearer and the great apostasy increases in darkness.

Has God preserved His Word intact for this generation? If it were lost with the passing of the original manuscripts, then with it has also passed the doctrine of individual responsibility of God. Then at best we shall drift on and on until we become shipwrecked upon the dark reefs of eternity’s unknown night.

Happily He who has said:”all scripture is given by inspiration of God” also said: “one jot or one title shall in no wise pass.”

Origin Traced

We have traced the origin, the simple and romantic history of the perfect line of originals and copies. Theses form the basis of our present Authorized Version in 1611.

In 1515, William Tyndale took his M.A. at Oxford. Said he “If God spares my life, ‘ere many years I will cause a boy that driveth a plough to know more of the Scriptures than the Pope.”

BIBLE HISTORY

Christians Took

Scrolls Into Alps

The Province today publishes the second in a series of three articles by Rev. Mark Buch, pastor of the People’s Fellowship Tabernacle, on his opinions as to the true origin of the Bible.

By Mark Buch

Have we today a perfect copy of God’s Word and where is it to be found? This question is constantly being asked. The loud differences in our Bibles are ample proof that they cannot all have been written by one perfect God, for God does not contradict Himself.

To grant the original manuscripts were the perfect, inspired Word of God two or three thousand years ago, is small comfort to man today, for it is common knowledge that they are lost. The big question to us then is not, “Did God inspire the original manuscripts?” We know He did but has God preserved that perfect revelation through time in copying and translation? Again and again the Word itself emphatically stated He has. (1 Peter 1:25) “The Word of the Lord endureth forever, and this is the Word which by the gospel is preached unto you.”

Tabernacle Pastor

Discusses Theories

Rev. Mark Buch, pastor of the People’s Fellowship Tabernacle, Vancouver, has forwarded a series of three articles on his pinions as to the true Bible and its origin. The Province prints these articles in the hope that they, along with the recent series on “The Revised Standard Version,” by Ernest Marshall Howse of the United Church, will help its readers to draw their own conclusions.

By Mark Buch

The transmission to man of the revelation of God, the Holy Bible is sacred. Upon these autographs are based the whole structure of Bible inspiration and ensuing doctrines of salvation.

The Old Testament written chiefly in Hebrew was canonized in its present form as early as the fourth century before Christ. Some parts were written 3500 years ago.

The New Testament was written in Greek and was completed in its present form by the end of the first century A.D.

This Is Calvin

THIS IS CALVIN
by Zygmund Dobbs

John Calvin (1509-1564) was a French lawyer-politician. He was not a clergyman at first. It is true that he studied theological matters at the Sorbonne of the University of Paris, but this was primarily a training ground for political techniques used to control populations .

What came to be known as Calvinism grew out of the policy and writings of John Calvin after he became the ruler and dictator of Geneva, Switzerland (1541-1564). Calvin originally had picked the losing aristocratic faction in a power struggle to control France. Since all these intrigues bore a religious complexion, the losers often were branded as heretics. Calvin was forced to flee his native France and eventually found refuge in Geneva. A man of tremendous political and organizational talents, he manipulated himself, and his fellow refugees, into absolute control over the city which gave them protection against the brutal Catholic Inquisition. Calvin had been condemned by the Inquisition, in absentia, to be burned at the stake.

Within 48 months of his rule in Geneva, John Calvin caused 48 people to be executed. His victims ranged in age from 16 to 80. The most common capital offense was the opposition to infant baptism. Today, baptism only for accountable believers, is a Baptist burning at the stake, or beheading. All thls was done in public, with city residents compelled to watch the butchery. The executions were spaced out so as to exert a continuing policy of fear and terror.

Others were killed for advocating local church autonomy; opposing the tie-in of church and state; and preaching that Christ died for all sinners (unlimited atonement).

In 1545, the bubonic plague swept through Geneva. Calvin and all his pastors had previously convinced their congregations that Geneva would be spared by God because they were the elect and that other cities in Europe, which had suffered, were reaping the harvest of sin reserved for the eternally damned. Calvin and his cohorts had to come up with a quick theological gimmick to explain away the plague in Geneva.

Calvin caused a number of derelicts to be thrown into the dungeon and tortured on the rack. While the victims were having their arms and legs pulled out of their sockets, the torturers kept repeating names of those suspected of having baptistic views. Under such incredible torture the victims responded to the promptings and confessed that the plague was spread by conspirators who caused it, "by smearing the door latches with an ointment prepared from devil's dung." The calvinist slaughter was so great that the smell of burning human flesh permeated Geneva for days on end.

On March 1545, Calvin wrote in a letter, "A conspiracy of men and women has lately been discovered, who for three years had spread the plague through the city. After fifteen women had been burned (by the state council), some men punished more severely, some suicides in prison, and twenty-five prisoners still held, the conspirators do not cease to smear the door-locks of houses with their poisons."

In Geneva, a secret police was forged under the name of The Consistory. Every home was compulsorily examined and searched once a month. The City was divided into districts and committees of the Consistory were empowered to search and interrogate all residents without previous notice.

How did Calvin manage to transform Geneva from a traditional democratic republic into a theocratlc dictatorshlp? The answer lies in a skillful use of terror, both of the earthly variety of torment plus the threat of eternal damnatlon by invoking God's vengeance. This Gallican lawyer, was a genius in fashioning a political psychology of terror. At the top was a Congregation of the Clergy. Calvin carefully filtered out all pastors and teachers who did not submit to his personal domination. Those who opposed him were dealt with a ferocity that even shocked the leaders of the Catholic Inquisition. In fact, when Calvin tipped off the inquisitors in France with information calculated to lead protestants who disagreed with him to be burned at the stake by Catholics, the leaders of the Inquisition sometimes mercifully allowed the victims to escape.

All printing presses in Geneva and other swiss cities were firmly controlled by Calvin's obligarchy. Only approved books were allowed in Geneva. All letters leaving and entering the city were read by the Consistory. A body of Professional evesdroppers was employed not only in

Geneva but was lodged as far away as Paris and Lyons, where Genevan merchants might be spied upon and their attitude towards Calvin reported. Any serious criticism of the Calvinistic dictatorship was punished by the fiery stake or beheading. In all cases Calvin managed to skillfully embellish his moves with scriptural quotations.

He had difficulty in reconciling his ideas of election and predestination with the books of James, Jude and II Peter. So, privately, he told his pastors that he doubted the authenticity of those books of the Bible. Even the Word of God had to be twisted to fit the tyranny of Calvin.

Baptists, [who have historically stood for] the principle of soul liberty, should be on guard against a system that caused the slaughter of more humans than were killed during the bloody terror of the French Revolution of 1789.

It is a matter of history that left-wing socialists have been extremely interested in the techniques employed by Calvin in controlling an entire society. There is an extensive literature dealing with the lessons of calvinistic operations for socialism.

In 1903 and 1908 a lawyer named Nicolai Lenin, the future Dictator of Bolshevik Russia, spent hundreds of hours in the libraries of Geneva studying these terror techniques for his own application. This alone should give all Christian believers a good reason to pause and examine the nature of Calvinism.

(The above is a fragment of a fully documented manuscript being prepared for a book on the history of Calvin and Calvinism).

“DEATH TO AMERICA” and “DEATH TO ISRAEL.”

From my In Box, you need to follow the link below - jnh

My Response to Obama’s Cairo Speech

Mr. Obama is so intoxicated with his own oratory that he seems to live in a dream world—certainly not a world in which hundreds of millions of Muslims support jihad, a world in which Muslim leaders scream “DEATH TO AMERICA” and “DEATH TO ISRAEL.” But this means, to put in kindly, that Mr. Obama cannot distinguish truth from falsehood. Of course, one may also conclude that America’s president is a master of deception.......

Crazy - Crazy

This was forward to me from a friend.

This is WILD, I mean it.

Okay, here’s a quick and ugly run-down of this video:

Story 1: Apparently, an evangelist in Sri Lanka is beheaded, and a Muslim comes by and sits his head by his body. His head reattaches to his body and he comes back to life. To repay him for his kindness, he led him to Christ, then proceeded to lead him into town where the guys who killed him saw him, they too were saved, and a massive revival broke out.

Story 2: A guy is murdered, and his body is dismembered… cut into five pieces… and sent a limb to five different villages and put them on display as a warning to Christians not to come in there. After a few weeks, they buried they guy. The church begins praying, and his limbs reattach and he comes back to life. I have one question… who dug him up, and how did they know he was alive? Did they hear him screaming from the grave?

The deeper you get in the charismatic doctrine, the bigger and bigger your stories have to become to be important. Notice the cheering in the video… if only they would cheer like that because Jesus is alive and on the right hand of the Father.

I Beat My Tetris Addictions

About 14 years ago, I was hooked on Tetris. Yes, some 45 minutes to an hour a day, I played. Yet, I have been clean, almost. I think I must have tried Tetris about 5 times in the last 14 years.

Have you ever been hooked on a computer game???

Tetris at 25: Five things you didn't know about the puzzling game

To mark Tetris' 25th birthday, which takes place this week, here are five things you may or may not know about the popular video game

"When it comes to change, there are three seasons of timing: People change when they hurt enough that they have to, when they learn enough that they want to, and when they receive enough that they are able to."

From My Inbox jeff

I know this is long, but it is well worth reading.....
I DON'T CARE!

I wish someone would read this letter to all the boneheads in the U.S. Congress who think water boarding is torture. It was written by a Canadian woman, but, oh. how it also applies to the U.S., the U.K. and Australia as well.

This was written by a housewife in New Brunswick, to her local newspaper. She is one seriously pissed off lady - as she should be and as we all should be. What the hell are our "representatives" and "officials" thinking in the first place? Are we fighting a war on terror or aren't we? Was it or was it not started by Islamic people who brought it to our shores on September 11, 2001 and have continually threatened to do so since?

Were people from all over the world not brutally murdered that day in Manhattan and across the Potomac from the nation's capitol and in a field in Pennsylvania?

Did nearly three thousand men, women and children die a horrible, burning or crushing death that day, or didn't they?

And somehow I'm supposed to care that a few Taliban terrorists are claiming to have been tortured by our justice system, when the nation they come from is promoting a brutal insurgency against innocent people?

I tell you what - I'll start caring when Osama bin Laden turns himself in and repents for incinerating all those innocent people on 9/11.

I'll care about the Koran when the fanatics in the Middle East start caring about the Holy Bible, the mere belief of which is a crime punishable by beheading in Afghanistan .

I'll care when these thugs tell the world they are sorry for hacking off Nick Berg's head while Berg screamed through his gurgling slashed throat.

I'll care when the cowardly so-called 'insurgents' in Afghanistan come out and fight like men instead of disrespecting their own religion by hiding in mosques and behind women and children.

I'll care when the mindless zealots who blow themselves up in search of

nirvana care about the innocent children within range of their suicide bombs.

I'll care when the U.S. and British and Canadian media stop pretending that their freedom of speech on stories is more important than the lives of the soldiers on the ground or their families waiting at home to hear about them when something happens.

In the meantime, when I hear a story about a U.S. or Canadian or British soldier roughing up some chicken-hearted insurgent terrorist to obtain information, please understand:

I don't care.

When I see a wounded terrorist get shot in the head when he is told not to move because he might be booby-trapped, you can take it to the bank:

I still don't care.

When I hear that a prisoner, who was issued a Koran and a prayer mat, and 'fed special' food that is paid for by my tax dollars, is complaining that his holy book is being 'mishandled,' you can absolutely believe in your heart of hearts:

I really, really don't care.

And oh, by the way, I've noticed that sometimes it's spelled 'Koran' and other times 'Quran.' Well, Jimmy Crack Corn - you guessed it:

I don't care!

If you agree with this viewpoint, pass this on to all your E-mail friends. Sooner or later, it'll get to the people responsible for this ridiculous behavior!

If you don't agree, then by all means hit the delete button. Should you choose the latter, then please don't complain when more atrocities committed by radical Muslims happen here in our great country.

And might I also add this quote:

'Some people spend an entire lifetime wondering if they made a difference in the world. Soldiers don't have that problem.'

One last thought for the day. Only five defining forces have ever offered to die for you:

1. Jesus Christ

2. The U.S. Soldier.

3. The Canadian Soldier.

4. The British Soldier.

5. The Australian Soldier

One died for your soul, the other four for your freedom.

It certainly wouldn't hurt if you might pass this on - too many people forget.
