Poem - Bible Holiness

BIBLE HOLINESS

I Corinthians 1:2 Unto the church of God which is at Corinth, to them that are sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints, with all that in every place call upon the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, both theirs and ours:

I Thessalonians 5:23 And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

John 17:17 Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.

The doctrine of holiness

Is somewhat controvers’al,

Oft when you start discussion,

The in’rest’s universal;

The holiness professor

Claims he’s free from inbred sin,

That he has vict’ry outside,

And a perfect love within.

Some teach eradication

Of all their carnality,

That from the sins of the flesh

They are entirely free;

That they are in Beulah land,

With all the giants slain,

And exhort all justified,

To thus seek a higher plane.

We see it little dif’rent

As we read God’s holy word,

After all quite natural

That we would consult the Lord;

We think the view just stated

Is contrauy to the Book,

To daily observation

Which ever way you look.

Holiness has three aspects

In the lives of those now saved:

First, We are set apart to God,

Never more to be enslaved;

Next, the work is progressive,

We are being sanctified

As we walk through this dark world,

With the Saviour by our side.

The last act in the drama

When we’re wholly sanctified,

Is at the church’s rapture

When the saints are glorified;

The spirit, soul and body

Full redemption will receive,

As promised in the gospel

Unto all who will believe.

You held out on me, Pastor Hallmark! You told me that you read my blog at camp, but you didn't mention that you have one too. I'm pleased to find it, and I'll be looking for your menu for the week! ;)
