FRESH BLESSINGS
There
is nothing that will rob the disciple more of spiritual nourishment and
cause him to question the credibility of his fellowship with God than
second-hand blessings.
What did the Psalmist David say in Psalm 16:11?
Hence,
the first lesson to learn is regarding the personal touch of the Holy
Spirit in the believer’s life… and the sweet fellowship that comes from
being in the presence of God…. And finding there, food to meet the needs
of any appetite. Read John 7:37-39 and John 16:7, 13, 14.
Whose thirst was quenched?
By whom was this to be accomplished?
Whom would the Spirit share?
Find three other verses that promise blessing to the disciple who will search for it. Write them in the space provided below.
Although some of the devotional books on the market today may be helpful, avoid allowing them to rob you of:
- the personal discovery of truth from God’s Word yourself;
- learning to recognize the voice of God and as a result the Will of God for yourself;
- becoming more familiar with the pages of Scripture and a systematic understanding of Bible doctrine; and
- the chance of recognizing your own spiritual need by not being able to cope with a quiet time with only you, your Bible, and God… without anyone else’s helps!
These
exercises are not designed to become a lazy man’s crutch, but rather a
bridge that can bring together the sincere Christian and God’s answers
to his needs by making the resources and information necessary for a
closer walk with God available to him. Hopefully,
much of the information contained in these exercises will soon become
second nature, a natural part of your life like eating which does not
require careful planning to remember and not to neglect, as you grow
through discipleship to the Lord Jesus Christ.

The Bible has so much to tell us and there are so many ways of reading it -- book by book, so many threads to follow through, historical subject matter. I find so much every time I pick mine up!
