The
Lord shall guide thee continually.
Isaiah
58:11
and they have singular
privileges.
The
ruling desire of their souls is to be right.
To think right.
To do right.
To go right.
They feel they are sinners, and
therefore daily plead for sanctification.
They
know they are in danger, and
therefore daily pray to be kept.
They are liable to go wrong, and
therefore they desire a constant guide.
Here
the promise of God meets them,
the Lord stoops to their needs and
gratifies their desires, he says,
“I will guide thee.”
Beloved,
our journey is through a trackless desert;
we know not a footing of the road,
all before us is untrodden path;
the road is lined with snares and dangers,
there are many by paths,
let us therefore lay hold of these precious promises,
“The Lord shall guide thee continually.”
He
knows the path.
He knows our frame.
He knows every foe.
He knows what we want,
when we want, and
how much we shall want;
let us therefore put the hand of our faith
into the hand of his special Providence,
and say,
Guide
me, oh thou great Jehovah,
Pilgrim through this barren land;
I am weak, but thou art mighty,
Hold me with thy powerful hand;
Bread of heaven,
Feed me till! I want no more.
