Answer to Prayer for Dale

Lifeless boy pulled from water at Long Beach survives

LONG BEACH, Wash. -- A life and death drama unfolded on the Long Beach Peninsula late last week.

Photojournalist Damian Mulinix took pictures of a boy, Dale Osterander, being rescued on Friday.

Witnesses say Osterander, part of a Spanaway church youth group, had been caught in a riptide and spent 20 to 25 minutes in the water before rescuers found him.

Beachgoers said it appeared the boy had died, but paramedics managed to resuscitate him.

"It is a miracle and God still works miracles," said Chad Ostrander, Dale's father.

In one photo, it appears that other kids are praying during the rescue.

Osterander was transferred in a LifeFlight helicopter to Oregon Health and Science University, where he was placed in an induced coma as part of his treatment. Then, several days later, the boy was brought out of the coma and was breathing on his own and speaking full sentences, according to Mulinix.

"We were trying to get him to cough, and he coughed once, we were trying to get him to cough and he said 'I don't need to'," Dale's mother Kirsten said Tuesday.

"They never expected him to live," added Chad. "They expected him to be a vegetable, never walk, never talk, never say a word and that would've been fine."

Tim Minge, Associate Pastor at Bethel Baptist Church of Spanaway was in the room when Osterander opened his eyes for the first time. He said it was exciting to see an answer to a prayer.

A separate blog called "Prayers for Dale" was created to organize support for Osterander and his family. Minge said members of the church are taking turns going to Oregon so the family is not alone.

Damian Mulinix also works for the Chinook Observer.

“Cottage Prayer Meetings”

Article from Dr Roy Harris

“Cottage Prayer Meetings”

Introduction:

I have been in the ministry over 40 years, and the thing that’s driven my life is getting RESULTS.

Seeing souls saved and lives changed for the Master has been my driving force. I say that for one reason and that is this:

Preaching without power is a waste of time. Not just mine but those poor souls that listen to me-

A soul cannot be saved that is not prayed for– One said: ”Sharing the gospel with a person no one

has prayed for is like asking a blind man to share a beautiful sunset with you, He is blind and can

not see”.

A read Bible that is not prayed over will not be as effective, or not effective at all. Why? I must

talk to God if I expect Him to speak to me-

Faith moves the hand of God. Note the following:

Mark 9:23 Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth

George Muller gave this startling testimony: “If I say that during the fifty-four years and nine months that I have been a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ I have had thirty thousand answers to prayer, either in the same hour or the same day that the requests were made,…”

Look on with me for a moment:

John 15:7 If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.

I did not have to read this verse many times to realize that God answered the prayers of obedient Christians.

A bit of testimony:

I was saved just weeks when my pastor Jim Phillips mentioned having cottage prayer meetings. I wanted to have one. What ever it was. I had a large den in my house so he told me to invite some folks to come to my house on Friday night and he would come to my house and lead the meeting. I will tell you about the events of that meeting in a moment, but first let me say that little effected my life like that night. Many there beside me were moved so powerfully that we met almost every Friday night for over three years. Oh if I only had space to tell you of the hundreds of answers to prayers. The growth In the Lord of those that attended.

One thing I do want to tell you concerns my pastor, Jim Phillips. (The author of this book) One Friday night after several months of meetings, Pastor Phillips called after the meeting ended and asked if anyone was broken hearted over some person they wanted to be saved. There were many that night, but one lady as I remember was totally broken over a person. The host told Bro Phillips the name of the person. No one thought about the call and went about having a time of snacks and fellowship. About forty five minutes later the phone rang and Bro Phillips said that the person had just received Christ as Savior. Bro Phillips later said that when he walked in the door the persons heart was broken. The reality of faith was overcoming.

Well that’s only a drop of Gods blessings that came on that group of people that got in one accord and saw many, many wonders of God as the Holy Spirit dealt with hearts and souls.

Let me now point out how those “Friday Night Cottage Prayer Meetings” worked:

First you need and appropriate host and location:

How many will be there and will the space be appropriate. Out of about 15 families that were involved in those meetings, about 5 had homes that were appropriate.

The people understood that. Let me now point out the procedures of the “Friday Night Cottage Prayer Meetings”.

First you need and appropriate host and location:

How many will be there and will the space be appropriate. Out of about 15 families that were

involved in those meetings, about 5 had homes that were appropriate. The people understood that.

It was up to the host to do two things.

One, ask a qualified person to lead the meeting.

Two ask someone to give the devotion. The devotion should be about 15 minute or less.

It is better if the host does neither of these. Why? It will insure more people at the meeting. It is

Particularly important when you first get started.

The Leader.

1– Opens the meeting by asking someone to pray.

2– Calls for testimonies. Note: After several meetings the people will start seeing people saved and

lives changed, The group will start getting in one accord. The power of God will work in the

meeting . Then the tone of the meeting will be set.

3– Then you can do one or more (or none) of several things:

One: Go around the room and ask each person to give one person they are praying for.

Two. Go around the room and have each person pray a sentence prayer for someone on their

heart.

(I think these are the most important to work with. just don't over do anything.)

The leader then calls on the person to give his devotion.

After the devotion is over then the leader takes prayer requests.

The host should make sure everyone has pen and paper.

Each week the person leading the meeting should try as much as possible to get only very serious requests. Make lost souls # one. Try to keep away from much of praying for the sick. Only very personal requests. Much more can be said. Just be Spirit led. Now it is time to pray

Here are three things you can do.

One– Separate the men and woman into separate rooms. Ask a lady to start the ladies off.

Two– If the group is small you can keep the group together.

Three– As time goes on and the group becomes sensitive to doing the right thing you can leave the group together up to as many as twenty people, but only if they will follow the leader when he says

To keep prayers short as possible. Pray mostly for that which the group is broken hearted over.

They have church and 7 days a week to pray over their personal lists.

The person giving the Devotion

Make sure that your message is on subject. Don't get away from prayer and the Holy Spirit.

If you have the ”gift of gab”, and love “much speaking”, don't quench the Spirit. The success of the meeting may depend on you. Keep it under 15 minutes and ask God to break your heart.

When the prayer time is over, then have a time of fellowship and food. Keep the food to snacks, and don't emphasis the food and fellowship. That will destroy the Cottage Prayer Meeting. Keep talking about the prayers during this time.

Something that is good to do when you have the group together to ask the blessing on the food is to

thank the Lord for the time of prayer with friends, and protect when they go to their homes, and ask God to bless the food and fellowship.

How to Pray for a Soldier

Our military personnel, whether they are inland or abroad, need our prayers. Here is a list of things you can pray for those who will become "a good soldier of Jesus Christ."

Salvation. If the soldier you are praying for has not made a commitment to Christ, this belongs at the top of your list. First Timothy 2:3-4 and Romans 12:1-2 are good scriptures to pray.

Relationship with authority structure. Though the authority structure of the military is difficult to adjust to, obeying orders can mean the difference between life and death. Pray that soldiers will learn to be "subject to principalities and powers, to obey magistrates, to be ready to every good work," (Titus 3:1).

Enduring hardship. During times of training and war, a soldier can go without food, sleep, bathing, or word from home for days on end. Paul admonished Timothy, "Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. " (2 Timothy 2:3). Pray that God will use these times of testing to lead the soldier to bring Christ in to daily challenges (Psalms 18:28-29).

Camaraderie. Stu Weber, a decorated Green Beret Vietnam veteran, says, "Every warrior needs a fellow soldier. Every pilot needs a wing man." Jesus demonstrated this principle by sending the disciples out two by two. Paul and Timothy. Elijah had Elisha. Ask God to send your soldier a buddy to sharpen and encourage them
(Proverbs 27:17).

Good advisers. "For by wise counsel thou shalt make thy war: and in multitude of counsellors there is safety." (Proverbs 24:6). Pray for soldiers in leadership positions to find others with wisdom and experience from whom they can seek counsel.

Courage. As Joshua prepared for battle, the Lord commanded him to be "strong and courage" (Joshua 1:9). "Courage," says David F. Winecoff, "has little to do with killing people and destroying property. Courage in its purest form is demonstrated by the person who stands by his convictions no matter the persecution or ridicule. " Pray that your soldier will have both physical and moral courage.

Resisting temptation. Abuse of power, sexual temptation, and escape through drugs and alcohol are just a few of the enticements a soldier faces. First Corinthians 10:13 reminds us that the Lord will provide a "way of escape" from temptations. Pray that your soldier will look for and take those escapes.

Witness. The reality that a soldier may meet with death at any moment makes the military fertile ground for the gospel. Ask God for open doors (Colossians 4:3) and that your soldier will have boldness to speak (Ephesians 6:19).

Safety and deliverance from the enemy. "The horse is prepared against the day of battle: but safety is of the Lord" (Proverbs 21:31). Whether in training or fighting a war, a soldier is in constant danger. The greatest protection they have is prayer cover.

Treatment of Enemies. Steeling oneself against an enemy is necessary in war time, but for war wounds to heal, forgiving the enemy becomes necessary. If your soldier goes to war, pray that he will treat the enemy as the Lord calls him to (Proverbs 25:21, Matthew 5:44).

Serving Christ. A soldier's understanding of how the "chain of command" gets things done brought the admiration of Jesus (Luke 7:1-10). As David F. Winecoff points out in Secret Weapon, "The very first convert outside the Jewish community was Cornelius, a soldier." Pray that the soldier's commitment to duty, obedience to commands, and willingness to endure hardship will serve the Lord's army well.

Praying for President Obama

Seating down this morning for my devotion, pick up where I left off reading yesterday.

Proverbs 21:1, 2 The king's heart is in the hand of the LORD, as the rivers of water: he turneth it whithersoever he will. Every way of a man is right in his own eyes: but the LORD pondereth the hearts.

With this, I bow my head and for the first of many times to come, I prayed for Obama as my President. For I am an American by birth, and a Canadian by choice, but a Christian by the grace of God.

President Obama's heart is in the hand of my LORD, and God is still in control.

Even so, come LORD Jesus.

Prayer of Matthew 6:9-13

Matthew 6:9-13

After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

The true spirit in which prayer is to be offered to God is seen in the prayer. We are to pray in an unselfish spirit. It is “Our Father, “ not “My Father.”

Ours is to be a filial spirit, the approach of a son to a father.

The prayer is to be offered in a -

reverent spirit: “Hollowed be thy name”,

in a loyal spirit: “Thy kingdom come”,

in a submissive spirit: “Thy will be done on earth”,

in a dependent spirit: “Forgive us our trespasses”;

in a forgiving spirit: “As we forgive them that trespass against us”;

in a humble spirit: “Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil”:

in a triumphant spirit: “Thine is the kingdom and the power”:

in an exultant spirit: “Thine is the glory for ever.”

The prayer embraces every relationship.

child and father: “Our Father;

worshiper and God: “Hallowed be thy name”;

subject and king: “Thy kingdom come”;

servant and master: “Thy will be done”;

beggar and benefactor: “Give us”;

pilgrim and guide: “Lead us”.

There is a striking symmetry in its structure. It commences with an invocation and concludes with a doxology; between these are six petitions.

The first three are directed Godward and for His glory;

The last three are manward and concerning his need.

Six Questions About Prayer

SIX THOUGHT PROVOKING QUESTIONS ABOUT OUR PRAYER LIVES Luke 18:1

1. Is prayer changing me?

2. Is prayer making any difference in my life?

3. Is my prayer life bringing me closer to the Lord?

4. Am I moving toward giving control of my life to God?

5. Do I constantly try to tune into God's presence?

6. Are any my prayers helping me develop a more loving relationship with others?

If you answered 'no' to any of these questions, then one more question comes to mind:

WHY NOT?

ARE YOU ON SPEAKING TERMS WITH GOD?

Men are not expected to be on speaking terms with their greatest enemy. But it is a sin of unspeakable guilt for them not to be on speaking terms with their best friend. God, therefore, is an enemy or a friend and that is indicated by the time we spend speaking with Him.

It was an unknown disciple ‘who asked the Lord, “Teach us to pray.” And yet how grateful we are to someone whose name we don’t even know.

It was not the Master’s method to give, unless asked; and this is ever God’s way with us. God does not throw His treasures at men. “God feeds the birds but He does not throw the food into their nest.”

Christ's Prayer Life According to the Gospel of Luke

The Gospel of Luke tells us of our Lord Jesus Christ’s prayer life.

CHRIST PRAYER at His baptism - Now when all the people were baptized, it came to pass, that Jesus also being baptized, and praying, the heaven was opened, … Luke 3:21

CHRIST PRAYER alone - And he withdrew himself into the wilderness, and prayed. Luke 5:16

CHRIST PRAYER all night - And it came to pass in those days, that he went out into a mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God. Luke 6:12

CHRIST PRAYER in the mountain - And it came to pass about an eight days after these sayings, he took Peter and John and James, and went up into a mountain to pray. And as he prayed, the fashion of his countenance was altered, and his raiment was white and glistering Luke 9:28,29

CHRIST PRAYER as an example - And it came to pass, that, as he was praying in a certain place, when he ceased, one of his disciples said unto him, Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples. And he said unto them, When ye pray, say, Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth. Give us day by day our daily bread. And forgive us our sins; for we also forgive every one that is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil. Luke 11:1-4

CHRIST PRAYER for His friends - And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat: But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren. Luke 22:31, 23

CHRIST PRAYER in the garden - And he was withdrawn from them about a stone's cast, and kneeled down, and prayed, Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done. Luke 22:41, 42

CHRIST PRAYER on the cross - Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots. Luke 23:34

Luke speaks more of the prayers of our Lord Jesus than any other Gospel writer. Prayer is the expression of human dependence on God. Why is there so much working and activity in the church, and yet so little result in positive conversions to God? Why so much running hither and thither, and so few brought to Christ? The answer is simple. There is not enough private prayer. The cause of Christ does not need less working, but more praying.

Dead Sea

It has been observed about the two seas in Israel, the Sea of Galilee and the Dead Sea. The Sea of Galilee is full of life, the Dead Sea has none. How could two seas, fed by a single source - the River Jordan - be so different? His answer: the Sea of Galilee receives water at one end and gives out water at the other. The Dead Sea receives water but does not give, there are no stream outlets, and if you only receive but do not give, you do not live.

Giving

“I looked upon a sea
And lo! ‘twas dead
Although by Herman’s snows
And Jordan fed.

“How came a fate so dire?
The tale’s soon told.
All that it got it kept,
And fast did hold.

“All tributary streams
Found here their grave;
Because this sea received.
But never gave.”
