OH THAT THOU WOULDEST BLESS ME.

EVENING DEVOTION by James Smith

MARCH 16

1 Chronicles 4:10
And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying,
Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, and
enlarge my coast, and that thine hand might be
with me, and that thou wouldest keep me from
evil, that it may not grieve me! And God granted
him that which he requested.

Thus prayed Jabez, and so prays every Christian.

He knows that the blessing of the Lord it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it.

There is a reality in the Lord’s blessing.

Well, he hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ.

All is treasured up in Jesus for us, and by faith and prayer we receive out of his fulness and grace for grace.

The Lord still blesses us.

He says, “I will bless thy bread and thy water,” and our temporal mercies are peculiarly sweet, when seasoned with his love.

He blesses us with renewing grace,
    reviving grace, and
        preventing grace.

He blesses, like a God, with blessings costly beyond calculation, vast as our miseries, numerous as our sins, and lasting as our existence. He delights to bless.

He gave his Son to die for us, that he might bless us honourably, suitably, and eternally. He has promised to bless us, and to make us blessings.

It is a blessing to feel our need of his blessing, and every one who does so, ardently desires and earnestly seeks it, is taught of God and blessed by God.

All is finished- not not doubt it,
But believe your dying Lord;
Never reason more about it,
Only take him at his word.
