EVENING DEVOTION by James Smith
MARCH 9
John 8:32
And ye shall know the truth, and
the truth shall make you free.
If Jesus is our Teacher,
if we
are of a childlike disposition,
if
we are willing to do as well as learn,
we shall know the truth.
All Zion’s children shall be taught of the Lord.
Every one who is divinely taught comes to Jesus
He that comes to Jesus is made wise unto
salvation.
The truth is in Christ.
He is its centre.
To know him,
so as to
trust his word,
rely on
his sacrifice, and
so his
will, is to know the truth.
The knowledge of the truth makes us free.
It frees us from ignorance, prejudice, and folly.
It frees us from the slavery of Satan, the
bondage of the law, and the terrors of God.
It frees
us from the guilt of sin, the accusations of conscience, and the cruel fetters
of carnal customs.
It makes us free, by imparting a true knowledge
of God, by discovering the way of salvation, and by proclaiming pardon, peace,
and reconciliation.
If we know the truth as it is in Jesus, we shall
conquer the world, enter the Redeemer’s kingdom, enjoy peace with God, and
render hearty and cheerful obedience to the will of God.
Saviour! To me the truth reveal,
Thy teaching, Lord, I need;
Its power and unction may I feel,
To make me free indeed:
Each fetter freak that binds my heart,
And sanctifying grace impart.
James Smith
