EVENING DEVOTION by James Smith
MARCH 4
1 Samuel 15:29
And also the Strength of Israel will not lie
or repent:
for he is not a man, that he should repent.
Then he ought to be believed.
It is impossible for God to lie, then he ought to
be trusted.
His promises are the fruits of his love, they are
changeless as his nature and must be made good.
He is the OMNIPOTENT, and can fulfil his word;
he is the UNCHANGEABLE, and certainly will.
His strength is pledged to his people, to sustain
them;
his
resources, to supply them;
and his faithfulness, to comfort them.
He speaks to us as sinners; he speaks to us as
fearful, as tried, as suffering, just as we are to-night.
Do we believe his word?
Do we treat him as a truth-speaking God?
Has he our confidence?
Do we stay ourselves upon his word?
Are we looking at his promise, and while we look
at it so we say, “This is the faithful word of the heavenly Father, this is
certainly true, this must be fulfilled, this is more durable than heaven and
earth, for Jesus has said, ‘Heaven and earth may pass away, but my word shall
not pass away?’ “
Fix your eye on his word, and while you do, say,-
Yes; since God himself has said it,
On his promise I rely;
His good word demands my credit,
What can unbelief reply!
He is string, and can fulfil,
He is truth, and therefore will.
