EVENING DEVOTION by James Smith
AUGUST 12
Luke 16:2
Give an account of thy stewardship.
We are in office.
We were put into office by another.
Our office is one of trust and responsibility.
It requires the exercise of the head—the
heart—the hand—the foot.
A steward should be active—faithful—diligent—and
keep the reckoning day in view.
We must give an account.
We may be called upon to do so soon—suddenly.
Our Master is coming, and we must give an account
of our time, how it has been occupied; for, or against him.
Of our talents, how engaged; as money, voice,
influence.
Our souls, and all their powers; as understanding
, will, affections, and memory.
Of our conduct towards others, and the cause of
God.
Of the sentiments we entertain and propagate.
Of our opportunities for usefulness.
Beloved, you are a steward, do you realize this?
Your bible is the Master’s rule, and your
directory, do you search it as such?
The day of the Lord is at hand, then all our
accounts will be settled, and every faithful steward will “have praise of God.”
All-righteous and eternal Judge,
When summoned at thy bar to stand,
May I acquitted and approv’d
Be crown’d with bliss at thy right hand.
James Smith
