HE WILL KEEP THE FEET OF HIS SAINTS

EVENING DEVOTION by James Smith

AUGUST 15

1Samuel 2:9
He will keep the feet of his saints,

The saints are the sanctified ones. Those who were set apart by the Father for his praise.

Who were exasperated by the precious blood-shedding of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Who are regenerated, purified, and brought out of the world, by the agency and operation of the Holy Spirit.

They are not of the world, even as Jesus was not of the world.

But though this privileged, they are entirely dependent.

They need keeping.

Constant keeping.

The keeping of a God, no one else is sufficient to preserve them.

Their weakness is very great.

Their road is rough, thorny, and dangerous.

Their foes are many, and they are vigilant, experienced, and determined.

Their fears are great, and their courage very small.

Still they are safe for the Lord is their keeper.

He keeps them from pride—presumption—and final falling.

He keeps them by his word—by his Spirit—by trials—by disappointments—by bereavements—by his angels—and by his ordinances.

They are safe whom God keeps, but only they.

He keeps all his saints, without one expectation.

But he keeps none but saints, therefore many professors fall.

Saviour! I trust thy faithful grace,
To uphold me goings in thy ways,
‘Till walking with my God I see
The glorious place prepared for me.

James Smith
