WE ARE THE LORD'S

 EVENING DEVOTION

OCTOBER 21

Romans 14:8
For whether we live, we live unto the Lord, and
whether we die, we die unto the Lord:
whether we live therefore, or die, we are the Lord’s.

The Lord hath a people peculiarly his own.

They are distinct from all others.

They are preferred to all others,
  being the objects of his choice
  —the purchase of his blood
  —the temper of his Holy Spirit.

He loves them with an everlasting love.

He calls them his portion.

He treats them as children.

He prizes them as his peculiar treasure.

He is united to them, loves them, and cares for them as his bride.

He keeps them as the apple of his eye.

The privilege Paul claimed for himself and his fellow-believers;
  and if we are Christians we can claim it too.

“We are the Lord’s,” and we know it,
  for we have been quickened by the Holy Spirit,
   we have been reviewed and acknowledged at the Lord’s throne, and
     we are consecrated to his service and praise.

“We are the Lord’s,” and we prove it,
  for we are united to his family,
    we are walking by his word,
     we are living to his glory, and
       we can only be satisfied with his presence and his love.

Beloved, let us rejoice in our privilege, it is great and glorious.

Let us cleave to his saints, they are the excellent of the earth.

Let us realize in difficulty and danger, the glorious fact, I am the Lord’s.”

Lord, I am thine, entirely thine;
Purchas’d and sav’d by blood divine:
My person claim, my soul possess,
And sanctify me by thy grace.
