JUDGMENT - LAUGHTER OF GOD

Doctor Francis McNaughton of the Montreal Neurological Institute told a conference on the Toronto Academy of Medicine that despite considerable research, the precise mechanism of laughter is still a mystery.

In other words, a man does not know what makes him laugh; the precise mechanism of laughter is still unknown. Man should know, however, that he is wonderfully and intricately made. David said, I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well” (Psalm 139:14)

When we consider the laughter of a human being, we readily realize that man was created on a higher plane that the animals of the field. The easy, out flowing ability of man to laugh proves that he is in a class by himself. He was created lower than the angels of heaven but higher than the animals of the field. The flesh-link, the blood link and the laughter-link are all missing between man and beast.

A moose can grunt, a donkey bray, a horse neigh, a rooster crow, and a hen cackle, but man is the only living creature giving vent to hearty laughter. It is an expression of the soul.

When we contemplate these facts, we know that man must have been created in the image of God because God and man both can laugh! God has put this capacity – to laugh and know happiness – within the soul of every person.

However, God does not need to laugh to provide mirth or merriment for Himself. He is eternal joy, eternal happiness, and eternal laughter. These undoubtedly are some of the divine attributes of God.

There is no record in the Bible that God has ever laughed or will ever laugh as a result of merriment of glee or to provide it for Himself. But there is much record that He will laugh in the day of judgment.

How terrible will be God’s laughter then!! The heavens will roll back as a scroll. The elements will melt. The sinner will stand without a covering, and in that day God will laugh!!!

Psa 2:4 He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision.

Psa 37:12 The wicked plotteth against the just, and gnasheth upon him with his teeth.

Psa 37:13 The Lord shall laugh at him: for he seeth that his day is coming.

Psa 59:8 But thou, O LORD, shalt laugh at them; thou shalt have all the heathen in derision.

Pro 1:25 But ye have set at nought all my counsel, and would none of my reproof:

Pro 1:26 I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your fear cometh;

Dr. McNaughton has said, “The uncontrollable laughter of a madman is the ultimate destruction of emotional control.”

In the day of judgment God will give vent to the most destructive, soul-shaking laughter ever heard. God will not break down; man will. The foam-flecked lips of a madman, spouting forth an uncontrollable laughter are as nothing in comparison to the future judgment-laughter that is coming when God laughs.

Why will God laugh? Because men laugh at Him now. They turn aside in mocking laughter, rejecting the Christ who has atoned for their sins. They will not believe. On day because of this God will loose His terrible judgment-laughter – a laughter of eternal death, an appalling thing!!

You can escape the judgment-laughter of God. You can know the joyful laughter of a soul set free, redeemed by the blood of the Lamb. God desires to flood your being with the joy of salvation. You can experience this transformation now and have a laughter-filled, heaven-blessed experience for all eternity. “…in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore. “

Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved,
