THE PRECIOUS BLOOD OF CHRIST.

 CHRIST ALONE

SEPTEMBER 15

THE PRECIOUS BLOOD OF CHRIST.

Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation
 through faith in his blood, to declare his
 righteousness for the remission of sins
 that are past, through the forbearance of God;
                                              Romans 3:25

The blood of Jesus should be the constant object of our faith.

The blood was kept constantly before the
 eye of the Israelite in the days of old.
 Morning by morning, and evening by evening,
 besides all the other sacrifices that were
 brought to the priests, blood was shed.

They could never enter their tabernacle or temple,
  but they saw blood.
Just so, the blood of Jesus should be
  kept constantly before our eye.

That blood is our atonement.
 By that blood our peace with God was made;
 by that blood our peace with God is preserved.

We were reconciled to God by the death of his Son;
  and in our daily walk with God,
   it is the blood of Jesus alone that
     cleanses us from all sin.

We can only maintain peace of conscience,
we can only approach God with boldness,
we can only conquer Satan,
as we keep the eye steadily fixed on the blood.

We are constantly committing sin,
  we are constantly contracting fresh guilt,
  we are constantly putting fresh weapons into
    the hands of Satan with which to conquer us;
  and it is only by looking away from self, sin, and Satan,
 to the blood of Jesus, that we can,
   obtain pardon,
      realize our acceptance with God, or
          place our foot on the head of the old serpent.

If we lose sight of the blood but one hour,
  we either fall into sin, or enter into temptation,
  or become entangled again with the yoke of bondage.

Faith in the blood of Jesus can alone preserve us.

 CHRIST ALONE, as having died for our sins,
  as risen again for our justification, and
  as now pleading for us in Heaven,
   must be the daily, hourly object of our faith.

Precious blood of Jesus!
  may my eye be fixed on it,
  when assaulted by Satan,
  when reduced by sickness, and
  when sinking into the arms of Death!

In whom we have redemption through his blood,
  the forgiveness of sins,
  according to the riches of his grace;
                                                 Ephesians 1:7.
