BE THOU FAITHFUL UNTO DEATH

 EVENING DEVOTION

NOVEMBER 6

Revelation 2:10
…be thou faithful unto death,

God is faithful to his people.

He always keeps his word.

He exhorts and encourages them to be faithful too.

This was spoken to the Angel, or Pastor of the church; such should be faithful in preaching the word; in watching for souls; in suffering for Christ; and in seeking by all means to promote the prosperity, peace, and holiness of the flock.

It includes the people.

Believers should be faithful.

To the truth, holding it fast; striving for it; spreading it in every direction.

To conscience, listening to its dictates, observing its warnings, and obeying its demands.

To their profession, maintaining it, adorning it, and endeavouring to make it answer the end design in it.

To God, believing in his cause.

To sinners, warning them of danger, telling them the tale of mercy, and leading them to Jesus.

To saints, reproving their sins, soothing their sorrows, and supplying their needs.

“Be thou faithful unto death.”

If it exposes you to death, be faithful, the crown of life is the reward.

Until removed by death, persevere, then the Master will call, “COME UP HIGHER.”

Saviour, help me by thy pow’r,
In temptations dangerous hour;
Give me fortitude and faith,
Make me faithful unto death.

James Smith
