Evening Devotion
DECEMBER 20
... all things are become new.
2 Corinthians 5:17
such is the
face in reference to every Christian.
He has new life, which is spiritual.
He feeds upon new provision, the bread which came down from
heaven.
He is engaged in new employment, which is holy.
He acts from a new motive, aims at a new end, even at God’s
glory.
He joined a new society, the church of God.
All things are become new.
He is introduced into a new paradise, peace and reconciliation
to God.
He is under a new covenant, the covenant of grace, not of
works.
He enters into new relations.
God is his Father
—angels his servants
—Christ his Brother
—the Holy
Spirit his Comforter.
He stands new in relations to God,
he is a child—to angels,
a
charge—to the world,
a witness—to Christ,
a servant—to the Holy Spirit, a
temple.
He experiences new desires, new hopes, new fears, and new
joys.
He looks for a new heaven, and a new earth,
wherein dwelleth
righteousness.
He is not as he was, cursed.
He is not what he was, carnal.
He is not where he was, in Adam—he is in Christ.
He is a new creature, old things are passed away, and behold,
all things are become new.
James Smith
Now, Lord, I would be thine alone,
And daily wholly live to thee;
‘Tis grace indeed that thou shoul’dst own
A worthless worm like me.
