He Doeth According to His Will

Evening Devotion

DECEMBER 14

…he doeth according to his will … Daniel 4:35

The will of God is infinitely perfect.

It rules all events. What God wills he works.

What he requires of us, shows what he approves.

What he accomplishes by his power and providence, shows what is necessary to be done.

His eye is in every place.

His hand is in every event.

The glorification of himself, is the object he keeps constantly in view.

He has so connected his people with himself, that what glorifies him, benefits them; and what does them good, brings glory to his holy name.

He is carrying out his plan, performing his work, accomplishing his purposes, quietly, constantly, and certainly; amidst all the bustle, confusion, and opposition of men,

His will is law.

It is the highest rule of right.

If it could be effectually resisted, disorder, misery, and wretchedness must be the result.

But the will of God us untied to omnipotence.

Whatever he wills his power accomplishes with ease and certainty.

But to him all the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing; and he doeth according to his will in the army of heaven, and among the inhabitants of the earth; and none can stay his hand, or say unto him, “What does thou?”

In heaven, and earth, and air, and seas,
He executes his firm decrees;
And by his saints it stands confest
That what he does is ever best.
